In 9 house moves, the worst experience.

Inexperienced staff, poor service, ran out of boxes, cost extra money because of delays and threatened to stop halfway if not paid upfront. Most damning was the comment of company that completed move from storage who saw storage and could not believe another removal company had done it. Items had been piled up so things had ended up broken and clothes were left loose. In additionitems, at least two bicycles were missing. .

Great service.

Bernies Removals turned up on time to provide us with a Full Packing service from Colchester to Somerset.  They packed with care and everything was wrapped and no damages to any items.  They used female packers who were a pleasure to work with.  They arrived on time and access to the property was difficult in a 7.5 lorry but they carried out the unload with a professional manner.  I would recommend Bernies Removals they are very honest and hard working team and we would use them again.

Great Removals.

We were contacted by Bernies Removals with a quote and they turned out to be excellent. We moved from Chelmsford to Walton and they went out of their way to help.  The porters were friendly polite and couldn't do enough for us. I would recommend Bernies Removals highly, great price and value for money.
The communication was good and kept us up to date all the way.  We had to change to date and they had no problem with that at all.

Do Not Move With Bernies! They Are Dishonest!

Please note that I am writing this review because I do not wish other people to be subjected to level of dishonesty which we received from Bernies Removals.

I found Bernies Removals on a removal company comparison website, and decided to go with them because they were slightly cheaper than other quotes I had received.

Bernie's employees turned up 20 minutes early, but I was immediately concerned that the size of the vehicle was not big enough. The quote had been assessed via email, and I had even called the company before the removal date just to make sure they were bringing a vehicle of sufficient size. I was told that it would be fine. We had already boxed up and bubble wrapped most of the contents of our house, but Bernies did not use any protective material, such as blankets, to protect our sofas during the removal. After much negotiating, the content of our house did not fit into the van, but to Bernies credit they said that they would come back and collect the other items at no extra cost. We left the remaining contents in the garage for collection. I gave them our garage key so they could collect the remaining items and asked them to lock the garage door. We discovered a week later when we went back to our old property that they had not locked it.

One of the removal men was carrying a long pole (part of our bed frame) in one hand, and texting on his mobile phone with the other. I half-joked to one of the other employees to please keep an eye on him, as he was not looking where he was going. It was seconds later, with this pole that he took a chunk out of the bedroom wall, and then did not own up. We spotted it very quickly and pointed it out, at which point he admitted he ‘must have done it’.

They also scraped the wooden floor with the sofa, resulting in a two inch long scratch. This could have been easily avoided if they had been more careful.

We were moving into a rental property and so were concerned we would be charged for damages. We thus called Bernies Removals Office whilst their van was still carrying out our work and spoke to Lorraine. She was very nice and completely reassured me that Bernies insurance policy would cover all these damages, and that when her employees returned from collecting the remainder of our belongings, she would ask one of her employees to take photos of the damage and she would send us a claim form straight away. We assumed this was via e-mail so when we didn’t receive it we called again and Lorraine assured us that it was a hard copy that was to be posted and we would receive it in 2 days.

The form never came. We called countless times and left messages via phone and e-mail which were never replied. My wife decided to block her mobile number by dialing 141 and Bernies picked up immediately. She spoke to a male employee who asked her name and initially was going to pass the phone to Lorraine, but then came back to the phone with an excuse, and said ‘you’re the one who wants to claim for your wall and living room’. He was extremely rude to her, and retorted ‘so what do you expect us to do?’ and asked her what the ‘big deal was filling the hole in the wall yourselves’. My wife explained that it was matching the paint to the rest of the room that was the most work because we do not know what colour paint has been used in the rental property, but he didn’t seem to care. She could also hear a female voice in the background throughout the conversation telling him what to say (presumably Lorraine?). By the end of the conversation he agreed that Bernies would come and repair the wall themselves (although would not guarantee the paint would match!) instead of putting it through their insurance. He refused to put anything in writing, and a vague plan was made that Lorraine would contact us at the beginning of the following week. Yes, you guessed it, the call never came. The contrast in their service before and after payment was dramatic.

I am a very honest person, and I hate to see companies act in this manner. So please, if something good is to come out of our experience with Bernies Removals, let it be that you have no experiences with them whatsoever.

Bernie's.

We searched the internet, prior to moving from South West London to Essex, looking for a removal company that would suit our needs and budget. We chose Bernie's Removals, based near Clacton in North Essex. We found them polite and honest from the start. They were punctual and friendly and went the extra mile to ensure the moving experience was as pleasant as possible. Our belongings arrived at our new home on time and undamaged. I would highly recommend Bernie's Removals to anyone.

Bernies Removals.

The Bernies team arrived on time.  Crewof 4 in two trucks.  They worked hard and efficently to execute our move.  They could not get all of our furniture on the truck but were willing to make an extra trip for us. Delivery was to a house with a very difficult staircase but the majority of our furniture was sucessfully delivered.  A good, solid team offering competive quotes and keen for business.
